Tom Cruise va estar en la apertura de la nueva Sede de la Iglesia de Cienciología en España, Madrid

I just got an e-mail about the grand opening of the new Church of Scientology of Spain. We've been awaiting this grand opening for two years as David Miscavige announced it would be happening at an international event.

Now it's finally happening.

And the other exciting thing about this is that last week when Tom Cruise was in Spain for the premiere of his new film, Collateral, he announces he'd be back for the grand opening.

Here's the public service announcement I found about the grand opening (doesn't say anything about Tom Cruise being there, but I've never heard of him breaking a promise and he did promise the media in Spain he'd be there for it).

Here's a groups whose purpose I really respect and agree with.

It is called the Institute on Religion and Public Policy.

Their stated aims are:

"The Institute on Religion and Public Policy is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to the research and encouragement of cooperation between religion, ethics and morality and government, politics, and policy in both the domestic and foreign arenas. The Institute seeks to provide a trusted, balanced forum where Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, Catholics, and peoples of all faiths and beliefs can meet and come to an understanding and plan of action on issues of common concern. The Institute provides an opportunity for individuals and organizations of diverse backgrounds, who may otherwise never have an opportunity for such cooperation, to sit at the same table in a respectful and open dialogue to collaborate on issues affecting religion and public policy in the United States and around the world."

When you think of it, that's such an important point. Communication, real dialogue. It is so hard for hostility and hatred to exist in the face of real live communication.

I found out about this group because they have hosted conferences where members of my church (the Church of Scientology) have spoken.

As usual, I logged on today and saw nothing but crime, terror and destruction in the news.

Every such act of violence is a violation of someone's or many people's human rights.

So in my own personal retaliation I thought I would post about human rights again.

Two thoughts for the day on this subject:

From the Scientology Handbook chapter on something called "the Third Party Law"

"The law would seem to be:

A THIRD PARTY MUST BE PRESENT AND UNKNOWN IN EVERY QUARREL FOR A CONFLICT TO EXIST.
or
FOR A QUARREL TO OCCUR, AN UNKNOWN THIRD PARTY MUST BE ACTIVE IN PRODUCING IT BETWEEN TWO POTENTIAL OPPONENTS.
or
WHILE IT IS COMMONLY BELIEVED TO TAKE TWO TO MAKE A FIGHT, A THIRD PARTY MUST EXIST AND MUST DEVELOP IT FOR ACTUAL CONFLICT TO OCCUR."

An who do you suppose stands to profit most by keeping vaste portions of the world population in conflict with one another? Who profits from ethnic wars? civil wars? international wars?....

There are some groups that are working to take down the prejudices third parties exploit in their work to foment conflicts.

One such group is the Institute on Religion and Public Policy

There are also many groups who work to safeguard human rights, such as the Human Rights Watch
and Amnesty International

People who dedicate their lives to helping others deserve our support.

My church has programs to help people learn their human rights, and gain more understanding of one another. We have published booklets for adults and youth to educate them on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. If this document were to be followed there could be no war, no racism, no crime.

The Human Rights Directory of the Church of Scientology International has worked for years to expose intolerance
and foster understanding. She has coordinated yearly human rights marathons in various nations since 1997. These are really ultra-marathons, where runners have crossed most of Europe promoting human rights in every town they entered. Ms. Goodman also coined the word "multathalon" which is an ultra-marathon with the addition of any other sport that the participants want to include, such as cycling, roller blading, horseback riding and sailing.

This year she has assisted The International Foundation for Human Rights and Tolerance and their outreach group, Youth for Human Rights International in their work to make the Universal Declaration of Human Rights known to children around the world.

If we educate youth on human rights and the urgent need to uphold and enforce them, this generation will help us all live in peace.
