(Interesting in light of recent FDA orders to put a black box on the label of antidepressents warning of the risk of suicide in teens and children)

Prozac Crisis Highlighted Lilly Tenure Of Daniels

The Indianapolis Star (10/24, McNeil) reports, "Mitch Daniels came to Eli Lilly and Co. in 1990 just as a public relations crisis threatened the company's blockbuster drug, Prozac. He became the mastermind behind Lilly's campaign to discredit the Church of Scientology, which claimed the antidepressant drug drove people to violence. Lilly bought and distributed 700,000 copies of a Wall Street Journal article critical of the religious sect. The company made sure prosecutors had access to pro-Prozac experts. And Lilly paid the legal bills of doctors sued over Prozac -- a practice now deemed unethical by the American Medical Association. Prozac defined much of Daniels' decade-long tenure at Lilly. He started as the vice president of corporate affairs and rose to senior vice president of corporate strategy and policy, reporting to the company's chairman and chief executive officer." The drug "was a success, in part, because Daniels and Lilly controlled the media strategy against the Scientologists, even coaching executives on what to say to the media."

David Miscavige - Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center

Scientology applied religious philosophy is unique among any other religion on earth today. Developed by L. Ron Hubbard, it is a technology that enables the individual to reach higher states of beingness and awareness.

If one were building a bridge, it would be wise to apply the laws of engineering and physics exactly. If you decided to alter the procedures, cut corners, be inventive to the detriment of these natural laws, your bridge simply would never be completed, or it would be highly dangerous as it would likely collapse.

In order to guarantee that Scientology applied religious philosophy would continue working, L. Ron Hubbard established the Religious Technology Center. As it says on the RTC web site:

"The powerful technologies of Dianetics and Scientology provide nothing less than the means to attain true spiritual freedom and immortality for everyone who begins the journey toward that goal. Technology like this never existed before, and millions around the world personally regard it as valuable beyond comparison. They know that when this technology is applied precisely as written by L. Ron Hubbard — and with their honest and ethical participation — they will achieve the spiritual benefit they seek through Scientology one hundred percent of the time.

Religious Technology Center (RTC) exists to ensure that this can occur. Its purpose is to protect the public from misapplication of the technology and to see that the religious technologies of Dianetics and Scientology remain in proper hands and are properly ministered."

As the Chairman of the board of RTC Mr. Miscavige has taken the leadership role for the past 20 years in ensuring that Scientology and Dianetics technologies remain pure and in good hands.

Recently Mr. Miscavige spoke at the grand openings of the new Church of Scientology of Spain in Madrid and the Church of Scientology of New York.

Church and State?

I think those who believe we should forbit the mention of God and all things religious in our schools and other public forums have serious education problems of their own.

The founding fathers of America were not skeptics or humanists and anti-religionists. They were deeply religious men who were affirming man's right to religion. They were not asking for freedom from religion, but FREEDOM OF RELIGION.

Here's an article about the Federal Judge in Seattle trying to grapple with this misinterpretation of the Constitution.

The founder of my religion, L. Ron Hubbard, saw that religion is as vital a part of life as food, shelter, education, art or politics, and that it is the main humanizing element in our society. As he wrote in an article "Religious Influence in Society":"Probably the most critical point of attack on a culture is its religious experience. Where one can destroy or undermine religious institutions then the entire fabric of the society can be quickly subverted or brought to ruin."

Mr. Hubbard is also well known as a writer, and one thing I've noticed in all his fiction works is the way he used the various fiction genres to make a statement about the nature of man.

One such work is "To the Stars" which has recently seen a revival through its re-release along with Chick Correa's commemmoration of the book
